Since 2016, Glenn Hill Jr. has hand built 25 guitars under the brand; he has two or three more planned for 2018. The 38-year-old guitar craftsman from Akwesasne uses his talent, steadfast passion, and 40 to 60 hours of labour to transform blocks of wood into a one-of-a-kind instruments. There are no shortcuts in his process. No kits. No plywood. No automated machining. He carves by hand, fashions the wood or pearl inlay himself, and hand rubs an oil finish on each piece he creates. The price tag for every guitar is a reflection of this. His latest one rang in at close to $6,000. But this craftsman and musician—he’s lead guitarist for the Side Piece Blues Band—is not in it for the dollars.
“I build for tone, playability and the satisfaction of knowing there is one less crappy guitar in the world.”
